Plus you can always buy used off of the web like www.craigslist.com. I found me a GNU Carbon High Beam with Burton Custom bindings for $200. As for gear, I'm not sure where you're from, but if you are from NorCal then Sierra Snowboard in Sacramento has some of the best deals around. They have really good pre-season deals - but you are quickly getting to the end of the pre-season - hurry! You could also do a season rental for this season and figure out what you like and what you don't - then buy what you really want next Aug / Sept when the prices are really sweet.
